new The creation of a digital thread connects processes, systems, products and equipment in a single source of truth. Automatic adjustments can be made to meet location-specific regulatory and operational requirements. For example, organizations may deploy AI and ML to proactively monitor data parameters to ensure constant compliance or add collaborative robots and modular equipment that can be repurposed for different uses. Sharing data securely, accurately and instantaneously frees up teams to focus more of their energy on refining and optimizing manufacturing processes, rather than simply ensuring that those processes work. Maximizing the utilization of existing systems and capacity optimizes time to value, removing the need to create new manufacturing systems, new platforms, or build new facilities.Contract Pharma, 4h ago

new ...“Our new generation of battery storage incorporates all the knowledge we have gained from almost a decade of experience in developing energy storage systems for commerce and industry,” explains Simon Schandert, CTO and Co-Founder at Tesvolt. The new storage systems can adapt even more effectively to the individual preferences of commercial enterprises. That goes for standard applications such as self-consumption optimisation and peak shaving or for multiple applications running in parallel. “The multi-use functions enabled by our energy management system offer enormous potential. Tesvolt customers can combine almost all applications as needed, such as optimising self-consumption with simultaneous control of generators and consumers. Or the forecast-based charging of electric vehicles with concurrent zero feed-in, to give another example. In this way, it will be possible to realise applications and business models in the future that may not even exist yet,” Schandert adds.electronicspecifier.com, 20h ago

Another key characteristic of distributed systems is scalability. To handle growing workloads and accommodate more users, they ought to be able to scale horizontally by adding more nodes. Fault tolerance is also critical to distributed systems. They must withstand individual node or component failures without affecting the system’s overall performance. Another feature of distributed systems is heterogeneity, where nodes may have various hardware, software and network configurations. The diversity may make collaboration and communication difficult.cryptonews.net, 3d ago

LANDESK needed to upgrade the performance and capacity of its aging storage infrastructure, the EMC VNX. This upgrade required at least an additional half a rack of EMC VNX to meet capacity requirements, and would result in increased costs for maintenance and support. In its efforts to find an alternative approach, LANDESK adhered to three criteria: ability to non-disruptively scale, achieve all-flash performance without costly expenditures, and the new storage infrastructure had to offer greater longevity than its previous system. After researching a number of storage systems, LANDESK concluded that the Nimble Storage Adaptive Flash platform, comprised of Nimble’s CASL architecture and InfoSight cloud-based management, was the only platform that met LANDESK’s key purchase criteria. The company made the decision to deploy the Nimble CS300 Fibre Channel arrays. "Frankly, I've never seen any other vendor deliver the kind of performance that Nimble does with the same set of hardware,” explained Jeremy Balter, senior systems administrator of LANDESK. “We are seeing all-flash performance without the corresponding expense. Furthermore, Nimble removes all of the complexity from the configuration process, and our Fibre Channel arrays were fully operational in very little time." Today, LANDESK is running a broad range of applications and workloads on its Nimble Storage arrays, including SAP databases, Microsoft Exchange and virtual servers. LANDESK was able to replace half a rack of its previous storage system with just 9U of Nimble storage. LANDESK achieved a 1.5X compression rate for its mixed workload environment saving close to 6TB of space. “We wanted to save space, cut costs, and achieve high performance with our new storage solution. With Nimble, we easily checked all of our requirement boxes,” added Balter. The Nimble Adaptive Flash platform also provides LANDESK the flexibility it needs to seamlessly scale its IT environment. Since upgrades are modular and dynamic LANDESK can scale storage performance and capacity independently and in line with application and user requirements. Unlike its previous system, the Nimble arrays are able to scale without having to rip-and-replace LANDESK’s storage infrastructure, eliminating downtime along with the associated cost, complexity and risk. “The Nimble approach really stood out from the competition and they’ve provided a platform that confirms they will be a longstanding partner of ours,” Balter continued. “The solution exceeded our expectations with all-flash performance without the corresponding expense. We’re realising additional savings with the datacentre footprint reduction and ability to scale non-disruptively. With our lean IT organisation, it is essential that we simplify our IT infrastructure to maximise efficiency. Nimble Storage has played a major role in making that happen.”...Digitalisation World, 4d ago

RENESAS ELECTRONICS Quick-Connect Studio is an online, cloud-based IoT system design platform that enables users to graphically build hardware and software to quickly validate prototypes and accelerate product development. Today’s development cycle is cumbersome – engineers research and define the project, collect device information and requirements, layout hardware, develop software, test, and iterate until the product is ready to release to market. This process is typically done sequentially, and each step takes a significant amount of time. Often the software development phase consumes the most engineering power and ultimately becomes the biggest bottleneck. Platform allows users to perform hardware and software development simultaneously, enabling designers to build software immediately with the ability to quickly reconfigure and test product ideas. This yields dramatic time savings and reduces risk as users can validate designs before committing to hardware layout.Electronic Products & Technology, 19d ago

An MPSoC-based NVMe-oF solution presents several advantages compared to a software (CPU + external NIC + SPDK) or an RNIC solution (CPU + integrated NIC). If an MPSoC-based solution has a relatively high cost and power consumption compared to other products, such technology outperforms the competition from a bandwidth, configurability, and latency perspective. Similarly, to an RNIC solution, the MPSoC NVMe-oF will saturate the network interface throughput. However, the MPSoC hardware implementation offers levels of flexibility and adaptability that other solutions do not have. This adaptive hardware can, therefore, target domain-specific applications allowing system architects to combine customer defined features (RAID, or new NVMe features as the spec evolves) with the primary IP and enhance the overall system feature set. Another option is to add custom accelerators like encryption or compression, for example, to combine two functions in one box. Finally, solution providers can create application-specific hardware products optimized for a specific purpose like video processing (video codec, for example) or artificial intelligence workloads. By combining an IT function like storage management with a task typically performed by an expensive compute node, the CPU gets relieved from having to perform high-bandwidth IO transfers and gets repurposed to more compute critical operations. Hatch has recently launched a Battery Market Solutions Engineering Services division. Hatch has the combination of technical and project delivery capabilities to design and execute a full gigafactory project scope, including the production process and balance-of-plant, all while respecting our clients’ proprietary design aspects. This enables us to leverage synergies that exist between the core process and supporting facilities, and to reduce project costs and schedule while maintaining or improving quality. Gigafactory construction is typically comprised of a multitude of packages, services, and stakeholders. Each stakeholder imposes their own strategy and methodology for construction, commissioning, and start-up, typically leading to inconsistencies and inefficiencies that can have a negative impact on project cost and schedule. As a leader in process technology, Hatch tailors approaches to manage the integration of activities so there is one consistent execution strategy: A strategy that improves cost and schedule and leads to better quality and safety outcomes. In addition, our approach employs a multitude of emission-conscious power planning and installation strategies that consider both renewable and conventional power supply options. This includes renewable power integration studies and load management evaluations to actively manage potential emissions as well as utility tariffs when in operation.Battery Power Online |, 10d ago

The design challenge for AMD and Intel is different than for smaller companies. Elements of design and integration are easier, as they design and build most of the parts in the package. Smaller companies, on the other hand, need to buy off-the-shelf parts and design the interposers and packages, so there will need to be a logic and functional specification for the chiplets. A unified platform might be helpful, but the industry needs to work through the standards to develop that platform. A de facto standard might arise due to designers adopting immediately available chiplets and the required immediate manufacturing need.Semiconductor Engineering, 4d ago

Energy storage systems (ESS) are the electrical equivalent of tanks for fuel or storage warehouses for coal. ESS can be used in multiple applications on both residential and industrial scale. In a residential application, it is simple to connect the PV inverter to the storage battery, to save and use the energy in the house or to charge the car overnight with the energy produced by the sun during the day. In an industrial- or utility-scale implementation, such as grid-connected services, ESS installations can be used for different purposes: from regulation of PV and wind sources to energy arbitrage, from backup support to black start (removing diesel generators), and, most importantly from a total cost point of view, investment deferral. In this last case, energy storage systems will be used to cover power peaks in the nodes of the grid, making sure the existing transmission lines don’t need expensive upgrades. Another relevant user case is the off-grid installation, where ESS enables microgrid or islands to be self-sufficient.siliconindia.com, 4d ago

As the information-gathering components of UAVs become more complex, they require more processing power. If the UAV is remotely operated, it must include data communications networking hardware. The entire platform must be designed to meet the environmental conditions of the area of operation – high altitude, extreme hot or cold temperatures, precipitation, etc. The range and capability of these platforms are, ultimately, limited by size and weight; fuel costs increase as the size and weight of the UAV increase. Therefore, by optimizing the SWaP-C2 of the individual components, the functionality of the entire system is increased.Unmanned Systems Technology, 4d ago

With appliances designed and tested to last a minimum of 20 years, test is a vital part of their manufacturing process. Every major function of every unit is tested before shipping. To meet these demands, the company’s test engineering group relies on LabVIEW for test and measurement and performs all software development in house. As iteration and frequency of product updates has increased, the number of software updates required to keep test systems up to date has also increased. Relying on manual and time intensive software deployment processes makes this difficult to achieve and prevents developers from being as efficient as possible. To overcome these challenges they selected SystemLink software to reduce deployment time and create a consistent process. Ultimately freeing up engineering time for higher-value tasks and increasing compliance. In a pilot implementation they were able to decrease their per system deployment time by 90 percent. A process that once averaged 30 minutes per system was reduced to 3 minutes for an entire production line.ni.com, 4d ago
